Nigeria’s corruption index rises – TI

Nigeria on Tuesday recorded an improvement in its ranking on the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), moving up five places to 145th out of 180 countries assessed.

According to the latest Corruption Index released by Transparency International (TI), the country has finally reached the highest 100 in the 2023 CPI results, with an increase of 1 point from the previous 24 points and 5 places from the increase in the index. Reached 25 points out of points. 150th place.

Perhaps the most widely used global corruption ranking in the world, the CPI measures how corrupt a country’s public sector is perceived to be.

A scale from 0 to 100 is used. 0 means “very corrupt” and 100 means “very clean.” The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Center (CISLAC), which launched the index in Abuja, said Nigeria’s score was below the average score for sub-Saharan Africa of 33 points.

Although this index does not indicate specific incidents of corruption in Nigeria, it provides information about the perception of corruption in Nigeria.

CISLAC notes that the release of this year’s CPI does not constitute an assessment of Nigeria’s anti-corruption agencies, maintaining that it is a commendable effort in Nigeria’s fight against corruption.
