Gombe Election: Supreme Court dismisses ADC’s appeal against Governor Yahaya’s election

A five-judge panel of the Supreme Court, headed by Justice Kudirat Kekereekun, dismissed the appeal shortly after the applicants withdrew their appeal. The Supreme Court has dismissed the appeal of African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate Nafiu Bala against the selection of Muhammad Yahaya as Gombe State governor.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court postponed until Friday its decision on another appeal filed by Jibrin Balde of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The commission will issue its decision on Friday, shortly after both parties accept the appeal and submit their arguments, which expires on Sunday, January 21st.

At the hearing, the Supreme Court panel confronted ADC’s lawyer and Bala’s lawyer, Herbert Nwoyi, on the incompetence of their client’s case and that the court’s time should not be wasted.

Nwoye then applied to withdraw the appeal, but the defendants did not object and the application was dismissed.

The Supreme Court also limited the date for notification to all parties of the decision in the appeal filed by Mr. Ashiru Isa of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State challenging the selection of Governor Uba Sani.
